Wow! I have really been bad about writing here... I had all intentions of setting aside a little bit of time every few days (or at least once a week) to get my thoughts out, but it seems I've been doing more ranting and drinking to clear my head than I have been doing writing. Not great, but at least I'm not keeping things inside.
I suppose I'm just feeling a bit pressed for time. I am working a lot (which is good) and when I'm not working I'm either trying to catch up with friends, family or catch up on some much needed sleep. I've managed to churn out a few decent job applications recently (for London jobs) and received a lovely rejection letter in the post from Buckingham Palace - admittedly a job I didn't really want, but was delighted to receive the BP postmarked letter in any case.
My job in Toronto is going well and has a few lovely perks, so I can't complain. Recently I took a friend who was in town from South London on a tour of the Rogers Centre and a sightseeing bus tour all for free - both enjoyable and the weather was perfect for the open top bus! Last night I took my folks to the opening of the Rogers Chinese Lantern Festival at Ontario Place... it was really pretty. On a somewhat unrelated note, anyone want to take guesses at when Ontario Place might be called Rogers Place?
Next week I'm going to an industry night with one of the sightseeing companies - it's a big party hosted in the Distillery District with freebies, free food and drinks, entertainment and prizes. Should be a good time, and a nice chance to unwind with my team of staff. Plus, I get to wear nice clothes and go to a fancy party for free. Sort of wish I could bring a friend, but I guess some things are just for work people.
I'm sending in the application for my UK Visa next week... was going to do it on Monday but as it's a holiday I won't be able to get my fingerprints scanned so I may as well wait until Thursday when I get paid again since the earliest I can do it is Tuesday as it is. So that's that. If all goes well I'll be booking my flight next.
I was listening to a Madonna song tonight that really hit home for me - I know, cheesy, but it did. "Jump"....
There's only so much you can learn in one place
The more that I wait, the more time that I waste
I haven't got much time to waste, it's time to make my way
I'm not afraid of what I'll face, but I'm afraid to stay
I'm going down my own road and I can make it alone
I'll work and I'll fight till I find a place of my own
Are you ready to jump?
Get ready to jump
Don't ever look back, oh baby
Yes, I'm ready to jump
Just take my hands
Get ready to jump
I'm nearly ready to jump.
