My new 'job'

You know how a lot of people say things like "I was dancing like it was my job" or "She was losing weight like it was her job" or "That girl shops like it's her job!"? Well, I'm making some changes in my life like it's my job.

Now, a lot of this new 'job' of mine has come out of a desire to fend off boredom, to keep my mind off of my upcoming visa application, and of course to get myself back to feeling more like myself. So it's all about routine and keeping busy. The 'job' will run Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am and 1am. The 'job' details are not set in stone and the tasks will vary from day to day, but there are three main components to my new 'job':

1) Health - This doesn't need much explanation, but I'll expand on it anyhow. This component is geared at getting me back to being a healthy, active, young woman. I'm only 26 but my weight and physical activity level are not where I would like them to be, even though I'm healthy. For this part of my 'job' I will be taking advantage of the group exercise classes at the gym and from time to time I will be completely in charge of my own exercise regimes. Basically, this is about just doing SOMETHING to keep active and not forcing myself to do something I hate - i.e. spend sixty minutes at the gym doing a mix of cardio and weights. So, each day of the week I will take part in some form of exercise and to top it all off I am making better choices regarding food/drink.

2) Intellect - Because I've been relatively lazy and bored for the past, oh I'd say at least six months, I'm making an effort to get my mind working harder. This will either involve learning a new language (if my lovely friend Kate's Rosetta Stone CDs aren't buried in the home renovations currently underway at her house) or reading more. I started a really great book about a month ago and so far am only 1/9 of the way through it (approximately 90 pages into 800+ pages). My job this summer kept me busy, but it wasn't very intellectually stimulating so I've spent a lot of time chucking out gargled sentences and disconnected thoughts. That is about to change.

3) Maintenance - This is the part of my 'job' where I get my life in order. This will involve one errand or household chore per day. It doesn't matter if I can't see anything that needs to be done around the house, there is always something. Even if it means going through my closet once a week to chuck out old clothes, toys, CDs, books, etc. I WILL get my life in order and will leave this room and this house a much tidier place... at least my areas of the house. There's only so much I can do in the main parts of the house.

So that's that. There are other components to this 'job', but like any job description/outline they can't all be listed here. Other highlights of this 'job' include:
- optional weekends off
- quality time with family
- bonuses for exceeding performance expectations
- improved quality of life and increased happiness.
