Happy (American) Thanksgiving!
In honour of my American heritage (and dual citizenship) I'm cooking a turkey today for American Thanksgiving. I've never cooked a whole turkey before and though my dad helped me to clean out the turkey (possibly the most disgusting thing I've ever had to do in my entire life!) I'm doing this all on my own. Here's hoping we won't have to order in Chinese food at the eleventh hour!
It's only been in the oven for 17 minutes so I can't really tell you much at this point in time. But I'll be in the kitchen with my laptop for the next four hours or so and will report back.
---
85 minute update: The turkey is starting to smell good, but is clearly nowhere near done. I may see if there's enough juice to do some basting, but not just yet. I've put some potatoes on to boil and will mash them when the time comes. The salad dressing for my favourite chickpea and shrimp salad is ready, but mum will bring the chickpeas when she gets home from work in a couple of hours. Things are going well.
5:55pm update : Everything is ready and cooling and I am still waiting on my chickpeas and shrimp - and my mum and dad. Will take a photo and give a full-bellied review after the meal. Happy Turkey Day, all!
